Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) is a regenerative therapy that uses a patient’s own blood to promote healing. It’s created by drawing blood, spinning it in a centrifuge to concentrate the platelets, and then injecting that platelet-rich portion into injured or inflamed tissue. These platelets release growth factors that stimulate tissue repair, prevent degeneration of healthy tissue, reduce inflammation, and may regenerate cartilage or tendon fibers.
Previously the evidence to support PRP had been mixed. However, as more data has become available recently, we now better understand the dose and formulation of PRP required to more reliably provide relief.
A major benefit of PRP is the regenerative nature of the procedure compared to steroids, which degrade the tissue over time.
We have used and evaluated several different processing systems to find the best for our patients. We believe that PRP machines that produce the same product every time are optimized for nobody. We are proud to use a machine that allows customization of PRP to meet your specific needs and condition.
The injection will be performed in the office without a sedative or sedating anesthesia. There would be no restrictions on driving. The injection will be guided into the damaged tissue under ultrasound guidance.
